June 2023 Artist In Residence Open Brief: Power

June 9, 2023

We’re teaming up with @clearchanneluk and @shutterstock in 2023 to offer more UK creatives of  African, Caribbean and Asian descent the chance to have their work displayed across the UK in outdoor media.

This year’s selected artists will also receive a £500 artist grant.

For your chance to win, send us your artistic interpretation of this month’s theme: Power

Of the people that want or hold power, only a few know how to use it well and responsibly. Whether it’s in politics, our working industries or even in the day-to-day, the use and abuse of power can make or break people. For this brief, we want to see your interpretation of power across the entire scale – from powerless to powerful.

As part of our 2023 programme, we will be opening up the selection of the final winners to the wider public, who will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite artworks on our website, before final votes are counted and winners notified.

Email [email protected] by Sunday 9th July 2023 with the following:

  1. Your submission:
    1. Visual artists: Hi-Res portrait entries to fit digital billboards
    2. Verbal/Word artists: 1 page of text (50 words max) to fit into our template
  2. Your work’s title
  3. A short description of your art (100 words max)
  4. Your name and bio (100 words max)

Final artists will need to sign a release form to give permission for your work to be showcased in POCC, Shutterstock and Clear Channel social, online and media communications worldwide as well as in outdoor media as part of

  • a) the public voting phase, promoted to the wider public
  • b) if a successful recipient, the 2023 Art Fund programme

You need to identify as a person of African, Caribbean, Asian descent or as a global majority creative to be considered for this fund.

If submitting imagery with models, please ensure permissions are granted for any models featured.

Final artworks will be live for up to a period of two weeks from launch. Our team will endeavour to supply a site list before your art goes live across billboards so you can see your work live.

Grants are awarded in £ Sterling GBP. Please note that if you are an artist residing outside of the UK and with an international bank account, your grant will be subject to local exchange rates and may incur additional local bank charges on receipt beyond POCC’s control.
