Art Fund Open Brief: Photojournalism

We’re teaming up with Shutterstock for our final Art Fund instalment of the year. We’re offering more Global Majority creatives the chance to win a £500 artist grant.

Photojournalism: stories of significance in 2023
We’ve extended our deadline for this month’s theme of photojournalism.
We’d like to see photographic images that tell a news story. Your submission should be a whole story a journalist might write, from start to end – only, instead of words, it’s captured in an image. From the good, to the bad, and the beautiful, a picture can tell a thousand words.
Note that to qualify entries must be both photographic and portray a newsworthy moment of 2023.
As part of our 2023 programme, we will be opening up the selection of the final winners to the wider public, who will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite artworks on our website, before final votes are counted and winners notified.
HOW DO I ENTER?
Email [email protected] by Sunday 26th November with the following:
- Your submission:
- Visual artists: Hi-Res portrait entries
- Verbal/Word artists: 1 page of text (50 words max) to fit into our template
- Your work’s title
- A short description of your art (100 words max)
- Your name and bio (100 words max)
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
Final artists will need to sign a release form to give permission for your work to be showcased in POCC and Shutterstock social, online and media communications worldwide as part of:
- a) the public voting phase, promoted to the wider public
- b) if a successful recipient, the 2023 Art Fund programme
You need to identify as a person of African, Caribbean, Asian descent or as a global majority creative to be considered for this fund.
If submitting imagery with models, please ensure permissions are granted for any models featured.
Grants are awarded in £ Sterling GBP. Please note that if you are an artist residing outside of the UK and with an international bank account, your grant will be subject to local exchange rates and may incur additional local bank charges on receipt beyond POCC’s control.
